Valmeinier
Description
Valmeinier is a mid-mountain commune in the heart of the Maurienne valley. Valmeinier and its many hamlets are inhabited year-round by a municipal population of 525.
The commune's territory, ideal for winter and mountain sports in summer, covers almost 54 km², with altitudes ranging from 1,200 to 3,160 meters. Valmeinier is divided into two areas: the first, Valmeinier Villages, at an altitude of 1500 m, is a village resort that has retained its authentic character over the years. The second, Valmeinier Station, at an altitude of 1800 metres, is a modern, integrated resort with authentic architecture. More than 10,000 tourist beds welcome French and international customers, with a wide range of accommodation types and categories. Valmeinier shares its ski area with Valloire (Galibier Thabor ski area). The ski area extends over nearly 160km of pistes, divided into 45 slopes for all levels, at altitudes above 2,000 meters. Valmeinier boasts modern facilities specifically for winter sports, including a snowpark, toboggan runs, snowshoe trails and numerous play areas. In summer, Valmeinier offers an equally wide range of tourist facilities and activities: almost 150km of marked trails, a climbing wall, an open-air swimming pool, a tennis court... Valmeinier is also summer: rich in an exceptional built, cultural and natural heritage. The Massif du Thabor, for example, is a listed site, particularly because of its great scenic interest. That's why the commune takes particular care to preserve and promote it for visitors. It supports or implements schemes to encourage visitors to discover the site and raise their awareness of the need to preserve it while respecting its ecosystem, all along its many hiking trails. In this resolutely tourism-oriented dynamic, initiated in the early 1970s, the commune of Valmeinier has equipped itself with a range of municipal services, infrastructures and human and material resources commensurate with its growing population, to ensure accessibility, safety, cleanliness and quality of life for all. As a result, Valmeinier has naturally become a tourist community where life is good.
